Flaming June

On Saturday, 1st June, we went to Po Toi Island on the ferry from Aberdeen. Apart from two other couples intent on bird photography on Po Toi there weren't many people on the boat.

On arrival, Po Toi seemed hot, steamy and birdless. We met Geoff Welch - "Mr Po Toi" - who was just leaving. Geoff confirmed our suspicions. Most of late May's migrants had cleared out, and so did we.

Birds of the day then, this pair of White-bellied Sea Eagles between Abeerdeen and Po Toi.

Don't ask me about the technical aspects of this, but our John and Jemi website (with our many gripping and informative Trip Reports, links, photos, etc. ) has gone down since about the 18th May.

I'll let you know when it is up and "findable" again....

There are only a handful of records of these in Hong Kong Waters..... but like a lot of seabirds, we may not have been searching hard enough in the right places... the "Bird of the Day" for most on yesterday's boat trip.

They're looking pretty "abundant" just here....

Yellow Bittern

A boat trip to Po Toi and southern HK waters yesterday. Po Toi has had a "fall" of bitterns... here Yellow Bitterns were wandering around as if they were invisible....
